Although it is a very old and outdated version, cosnider it an pre-alpha. Also beware of youtube audio compression. As ridiculous as this book was, I'm still going to read the second one because I'm so addicted to this franchise. I have a problem. Oct 19, Earwen rated it it was ok Shelves: light-novel. Wow the writing in this is atrocious. I've read light novels before and I even read fan translated light novels before and I rarely saw something so sloppily written.

You can only blame the translation to a point I think they really did the best they could given material. Also the art in this is obliviously not done by the main team or whatever from the games. It's not outright bad but the artist obviously has a thing for legs as they're not only front and center in every illustration but also t Wow the writing in this is atrocious.

It's not outright bad but the artist obviously has a thing for legs as they're not only front and center in every illustration but also take up half the picture. It's especially egregious because the legs in other canon material are little more than sticks.

That said it was fun enough, most of the new characters got on my nerves and the plot is sort of all over the place but I'm hoping the second volume will kill off the annoying people and give some sense to the plot. Two stars for now, I might change it after the second volume. Jan 18, Blue! This seriously needs an official English translation.

Oh and as much as I love Rui for birthing the danganronpa art style, he could have toned down the uh The plot was nuts, like all spinoffs from this series are, but not terribly bad. But I still app This seriously needs an official English translation. But I still appreciated the plot twist. This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers. To view it, click here. I think the fanlation I read was pretty mediocre-to-bad. But this story overall was particularly silly, more than a little off-putting, and generally underwhelming.

I think reading this while playing DR2 and, after, when I was watching DR3 was the best choice but it also made this LN seem particularly unnecessary.

I haven't finished the second volume because overall I just don't care much about this. Should this ever get an official English translation, I'll definitely look into it again to see i I think the fanlation I read was pretty mediocre-to-bad. Should this ever get an official English translation, I'll definitely look into it again to see if it's any better.

Ryoko Otanashi and Yasuke Matsada are the main characters of this story. Ryoko suffers from the constant loss of short term and long term memories. Yasuke is an ultimate neurologist. It's basically a prequel. I would say that this light novel is a mandatory read for hardcore fans. It gives more context to the story as a whole. Be prepared for a despair indu Ryoko Otanashi and Yasuke Matsada are the main characters of this story.

Be prepared for a despair inducing despair story. My rating is biased as I'm influenced by my love for the series. Oct 21, Slimy Panda rated it did not like it Shelves: the-very-very-very-best , weeb-stuff , batch This was incredible! It captured Danganronpa perfectly and the charm that each piece of media in the series brings. The plot twists hit you like trucks and the characters are just as charming.

Would recommend to anyone who likes Danganronpa! The book has NOT been officially translated by Spike Chunsoft and the writing can feel a bit off at times. Holy crap, so messed up This is a very good book. It was a bit slow in the beginning, but it progressed to a very interesting twist at the end. I would recommend this story to others. This rating is for fans of the Danganronpa 1 game, not for a general audience.

Rating: 4. I'm really sorry about that, but I really can't make a review without mentioning some things that happened in the games, etc. However, I will try my best to hide some spoilers. I hope you enjoy! I basically read more about the Danganronpa universe, watched some "theory" videos on YouTube and then ended up reading the light novels. It's my first time to finish reading a light novel, I haven't even started reading the D.

Gray-Man ones, which is a surprise since DGM is my favorite anime of all time. Anyway, as I was reading the Danganronpa Wikia page for the light novel, I accidentally read that view spoiler ["Ryoko is actually Junko" hide spoiler ].. Take note, I don't even know who Ryoko is in the first place since I haven't started reading the light novel yet.

How cruel is that? Thanks internet! Such despair. Also, I'm glad that I'm back on reading spree! I've been on hiatus from reading and book-reviewing because of personal reasons but I'm glad I'm back and hopefully I could soon read lots of books that I've neglected and make more reviews for both Goodreads and my blog.

Expect more reviews in the next few weeks. Though it's games may have holes in it, I think the concept of the whole DRU Danganronpa Universe I totally made that up is very astonishing and cool compared to other games up to date. She has also earned the title of Ultimate Analyst, hence getting her scouted by the said school.

She is often found writing in her notebook, Ryoko Otonashi's Memory Notebook, in which she stores her memories as well as data used for analyses.

And she is also infatuated with her doctor, Yasuke Matsuda, who is also an attendee of Hope's Peak Academy 77th class and the Ultimate Neurologist. I had the mentality of "just being curious" because I have been spoiled about the ending. And I must say, it was pretty hectic. Maybe it's because of the protagonist's perspective since she forgets everything but it think it's pretty interesting how she thinks considering view spoiler [she is Junko Enoshima's post-memory-deletion-experiment-self hide spoiler ].

Let's talk about the characters first. To be honest, this volume is refreshing since I get to read the things that was just implied and not further discussed from the games, like how Kyoko talked to her father DR1 and the whole Hope's Peak Academy tragedy SDR2. The character development cannot be determined yet because of the inconsistency of the storytelling made by the protagonist.

But one thing's for sure: don't get deceived by looks. As such, it is considered to be incomplete regarding the information available.

There are two known volumes, which were written by the creator of the series, Kazutaka Kodaka. The story revolves around an amnesiac girl named Ryoko Otonashi who is a student at Hope's Peak Academy , and the sharp-tongued Ultimate Neurologist Yasuke Matsuda , with whom she is infatuated. Due to her constant loss of short and long-term memories, Ryoko has very little interest in the world around her except for Yasuke, who gives her regular treatment.

Yasuke, on the other hand, appears to be very stressed by her and the school's situation. A month after The Tragedy of Hope's Peak Academy , the school is full of unrest and secrets, with many people attempting to find out what truly happened and who is to blame. Despite not wanting any of it, Ryoko is connected to the incident and soon gets caught up in its aftermath, learning more and more about what happened.
